but they died!!! So many elves died!! Its a tragedy!! I'm rather obsessed with elves, and bear to see so many of them die! Legolas should have been the only elf there! And as for Haldir, I must admit, I agree with Laerdan Although Craig Parker looks pretty good, I really don't care for Haldir. It is funny when Aragorn hugs him, though.

Tolkien was in a war, and he dealt with death all the time. Some times good people die, and I think he reflected that in his writings.

I find it funny how there are the options of "what's an Elf?" and "what's Helm's Deep?" lol
Hmm I was a little disappointed Jackson put in Elves at Helm's Deep and changing it all, but not too much. I love Elves and it only gave me more grins to watch them in action ^^

It's true Haldirs death scene is a treat it means we don't have to put up with him any more he should have stayed in Lothlorien no where near handsome enough to be a main character in this film though I know others would disagree i totally agree, i dislike the him intensly, but originally they had Arawen in that scene

Speaking of Haldir, here's a funny picture I found a bit ago.

LOL! That's hilarious! Well, at least Arwen isn't driving the bus to Helm's Deep.

I'm going for 'just Legolas' because that was such a major change in Helm's Deep for all the Elves to arrive! I mean, when Haldir gets it and you see all those dead Elves, I just feel all because they weren't even s'posed to be there!

Wow! I almost am afraid to put in my opinion...I really liked the Elves joining in. (Do we let them stand alone?) I thought it was so heroic. I know it's different from the books, and Tolkien was the master, but I really thought it added a lot (I loved the scene in which Aragorn gives Haldir a hug, and Haldir looks embarrassed; then he kinda returns the hug).
I always try to separate the movie from the books. As long as PJ didn't have Aragorn marrying Eowyn, or Pippin marrying Rosie, or Frodo running off with Goldberry (You know, no major changes), I don't see the problem of adding the Elves to Helm's Deep. (We might just as well dislike The Ten Commandments movie because it doesn't follow the Bible particularly well) [/b][/quote] I agree. I also think he put the elves at helms deep to show the elves were fighting and dieing in the war. Tolkien was intent on showing the ugliness and horror of war, and that one scene, with all those lovely elves lying broken and dead, did just that.

I think only Legolas should have been there because it was the moment of the Rohirrim. In the book, when Eomer and Aragorn rallied the men time after time, that was really cool (also, I think Erkenbrand should definitely have been in the movies). Nothing against the elves, I just thought they shouldn't have been in that scene
