From every direction came hissing laughter as the elves looked from tree to tree and saw webs thicker than rope stronger than elven steel and strung in a huge net all around them
behind the net were eyes the eyes of a legion of spiders
thousands and thousands of spiders from th size of a dog to the size of an elephant
and behind them all a single huge Spider bigger than anything any of them had ever seen a spider the size of the hall of legolas's father
Draith the mighty first born of ungoliant the mightest spider on middle earth
invincible invulnerable and the true king of the wood
"Elves raining from the treesss" He laughed as his army closed in "the first to loosssse an arrow Diessss"
"so elvesssss Talk or die your choice"He rumbled

Nilikar looked for shelter, but was stopped by a spider her size. She took out her sword. "Leave us if you want to live!"Meanwhile Naryeth shook like a leaf while holding his bow. "What do you think?" He whispered to the other elves.

at an unspoken command the spider legion retreated beyond the edge of the clearing leaving only the single massive creature
"I am Draith the mighty first born of ungoliant"He said "You chose wisely no weapon any of you has can harm me"
his huge body wa now visible legs bigger than tree trunks eyes larger than a shield and fangs the length of a lance
"I have a Task for such as you little elf"He said "A Quest you might say"it seemed to chuckle "If you serve me well I will reward you but if you fail my legion will consume every elf in mirkwood"
there was renewed hissing
"Will You hear my offer?"

Nilikar looked around did she have a choice? She looked at Naryeth hoping he would help her, but of course he stood there frightened. She sighed "Alright."

another spider scurried up with a smaller burden a bag of gold coins "the chest and the bag are a token of good faith a small number of coins of gondor and arnor what do you say elf "

as he spoke a smaller spider strode out into the clearing it was huge fully as big as an elephant and wore some form of harness and pieces of armour over every vulnerable spot "Greetings Elf child I am known as Taran the Wise son of Draith The mighty grandson of ungoliant the terrible "the huge spider settled between its fathers front legs "I am to accompany you"

Legolas turned and started walking.
