Malbeth the Seer's Words
I Bith Valbeth Balan-Gened
The Words of Malbeth Far-Seeing
(Neo-Sindarin used caeda- (to lie), ratha- (to reach))
Over the land there lies a long shadow,
Am i nôr caeda dae and,
Over the land lies a long shadow.
Westward reaching wings of darkness.
Revail dhúath, rathol nan annún.
Wings of darkness, reaching towards the west.
The Tower trembles; to the tombs of kings
I marad gîr, nan hoedh-in-erain
The tower trembles, to the tombs of the kings
Doom approaches. The Dead awaken;
Tôl amarth, in firn eriar;
Comes doom, the dead arise;
For the hour is coming for the oathbreakers:
Lû tôl am in gwerth-en-gwest
The time comes for the betrayers of the oath
At the stone of Erech they shall stand again
Na Harn Erech gevedithar
At the Stone of Erech they shall meet
And hear there a horn in the hills ringing.
A lastathar chûl rom vi emyn 'wethryl.
And will listen to a horn cry in overshadowing hills.
Whose shall the horn be? who shall call them
Man dîr geritha i rom? Man dîr tegitha
What man will have the horn? What man will lead
From the grey twilight, the forgotten people?
Uin uial thind, i 'waith athan rîn?
From the grey twilight, the people beyond remembrance?
The heir of him to whom the oath they swore.
I chîl dhîr na i gwestanner i gwaedh.
The heir of the man to whom they swore the oath.
From the North shall he come, need shall drive him:
Uin forn telitha, horthannen na maur
From the north shall he come, urged on by need
He shall pass the Door to the Paths of the Dead.
Minnatha trî i fen nan Raid-in-Firn.
He shall enter through the doorway to the Paths of the Dead.
