"'That settles it!' said Frodo. 'Short cuts make long delays, but inns make longer ones. At all costs we must keep you away from the Golden Perch.'" This is such a great chapter... I love the character of Farmer Maggot. Who else would be confronted with a Black Rider and give him a "Be off!"? And Sam has such a great moment... I love that quote!

It's a great chapter. During the whole chapter, there's this tension of the black riders following the Hobbits. You know that it's dangerous as soon as the Elves left, and Frodo immediately fears the Black Riders. It's scary, not just for the Hobbits, but also for the readers. I think it's funny when Frodo is afraid of Farmer Maggots's dogs, because something like that happened to me years ago!

The Drinking song from the green dragon in the movie i here!!! I can't remember where exactly but It was so neat to find the song. PJ Changed it a little though. I loved this chapter. It really showed how different Frodo Sam and Pip are different from other Hobbits and how Sam and Pippin are good choices for Frodo to take with him.

Farmer Maggot is a kick! I also found it cool how Mrs. Maggot gave Frodo a basket of mushrooms, and Frodo's reaction. It almost seems lik the Hobbits can still have a bit of fun and laughter even though they are being pursued by evil.

It is also very evident in this chapter that Pippin doesn't have much of a clue as to what is going on. He speaks of the Black Riders with not much fear evident at all. Even while they share a meal at Farmer Maggot's farmhouse and he obviously hears Frodo's guarded answers to Farmer Maggot's questions, he still seems unaware. A favorite part of this chapter for me is Sam's declaration of loyalty to Frodo. I did not like how lightly his speech was translated to the big screen, with Gandalf getting the credit for it, and it cut so much. It is with delight that I read it again this week, thanks to you guys.
