" 'You do not understand!' said Pippin. 'You must go - and therefore we must, too. Merry and I are coming with you. Sam is an excellent fellow, and would jump down a dragon's throat to save you, if he did not trip over his own feet; but you will need more than one companion in your dangerous adventure.'" It's a shame that this whole bit was trimmed out of the movie, because it shows the friendship between the Hobbits so well, and Merry and Pippin's devotion to Frodo: " We are horribly afraid - but we are coming with you; or following you like hounds." There's also the character of Fatty Bolger that is not usually mentioned... I wonder what would have happened with him if he had joined with the other Hobbits.

Wow, it seems so empty here in the library. Echo echo echo... Well, in this chapter Frodo learns a little something about what being secretive does not mean! Sam turning out to be the spy by which Merry and Pippin and Fatty know what is going on with Frodo shows them Sam to be even more secretive than Frodo thought he himself was! Too, I think Frodo breathed a great sigh of relief to know that he was not going to be parted from his closest of friends. Yes, the close friendship shared by these hobbits was missed in the movie. (that is why the book is better! hehe)
