I thought we should have a thread like this so!
My favourite chapters are:
Strider - Aragorn is introduced so mysteriously and I think this is the point where the book really starts getting serious.
Lothlorien - I love the description in this one its beautiful!
Farwell to Lorien - I love the gift giving and I believe that its in this chapter!
The Houses of Healing - This has comic parts and serious parts, I think that it has a great balance!
The Field of Cormallen - This is such a great chapter everyone is back together and friends are reunited. It is such a moving and thoughtprovoking Chapter!
The Steward and the King - I love this chapter it is sort of the end of the story and everything is settling down again.
The Grey Havens - This is ones of the most moving ending I have ever read and it is described so beautifully with such emotion that I had to put it in my favourites.
The Tale of Aragorn and Arwen - I know this isn't really a chapter but I find this so emotional and full of love that is it is one of my favourite parts of The Lord of the Rings!
I can't remember which chapter it is in (but i think is The Steward and the King) but I love the part when Arwen turns up and they go and get married!

Be careful about spoilers everyone...put warnings in your posts...
These aren't all of mine, but I'm doing it almost off the top of my head.
FOTR
At the sign of the Prancing Pony etc. It's fast, it's funny and it brings you into the story in a way - into the Prancing Pony
Many Meetings This has some amusing dialogue from the hobbitses and I also love the description of Elrond, Glorfindel and Gandalf.
TTT
Of Herbs and Stewed Rabbit "Po - ta - toes!"
ROTK
The Houses of Healing Some of the most beautiful dialogue in the whole book is here. It's a lovely chapter.
Mount Doom This is just beautiful. I think it sums up everything LOTR is about and it's wonderful.
The Steward and the King Ditto.
The Grey Havens This scene could make me cry. Especially in the radio version (they used Bilbo's Last Song, a work that I think was found after Tolkien's death).
SPOILERS START HERE!!!!
Epilogue This was supposed to be the ending of LOTR, but in the end it wasn't. It shows Sam with his children, and it's just beautiful. It's in Sauron Defeated, History of Middle-earth.

FOTR Fog on the Barrow Downs- it's so spooky. Tolkien had a great way to describe the creepy feeling of that place. The bridge of Khazad Dum- a very important chapter, with the Balrog and all. TTT The Departure of Boromir- Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Boromir hater! I just think that this is a very moving chapter. The King of the Golden Hall- a great Rohan chapter. Helm's Deep- I like the parts about battles, and the battle for Helm's Deep is very exciting. The Window on the West- You probably know why . The Forbidden Pool- Like "the window on the west" . The choices of master Samwise- This chapter really makes me cry. "Don't go where I can't follow" just gets me everytime. It's so beautifully written... ROTK The Siege of Gondor- It really shows how bad things are going for Gondor. And I really like the dialogue between Faramir and Denethor. The Battle of the Pelennor Fields- Absolutely breathtaking, that's all I can say about it. The Houses of Healing- That's probably the ER fan inside of me talking. Mount Doom- I was reading ROTK at school, during lunch breaks, but when I got to this chapter, I just couldn't stop reading. I kept reading during classes. It's so emotional and exciting, it's hard to stop reading. The Steward and the King- Hmm, I guess the romantic parts are good too, sometimes.

Oops sorry about spoilers eveyone!!
Are the History of Middle Earth books worth getting? Or do they just repeated parts of LOTR, because I really want to get them if they have new stuff in them!!

I found Sauron Defeated very interesting - all the ideas that went through Tolkien's head! Sam could have thrown himself and Gollum into the cracks of doom, or the Nazgûl could have come to Mount Doom. Sometimes there are small repeated bits, but they're worth a look and there's definitely extra info. Some people regard them as reference material, but I could actually read Sauron Defeated through. Unfinished Tales is another good one (not in HoME, you've probably read it anyway).
Maybe you could borrow them from a library and then buy them later if you like them? That's what I do if I'm not sure about a book.

Are the History of Middle Earth books worth getting?
My favourite one so far is The Lays of Beleriand. It's brilliant - it's got the tales of Turin and of Beren and Luthien in verse form, and although unfinished, they are really worth reading.

I've already been and looked at the History of Middle-Earth to see about the price but they didn't have the complete set it started from number 2 to number 8! So i guess I'll have to wait a bit more!
