Tough one - I'm not going to vote. I think it's a bit about Frodo and Sam, and a bit about Frodo and Galadriel or someone like that. I don't know. It's just Annie's voice really that makes me think that, but the lyrics suggest it a bit as well.

Um...elves in general, I don't really think about it, I just listen to it. (And sing along! )

I think it's about anyone and everyone who will ever leave someone behind in Middle Earth. Be it Frodo and Sam, Arwen and her Father, Galadriel and Celeborn, anyone.
And sometimes I even think it applies to people in my life who I've lost over the years.

I think Sam and Frodo, though it could easily be applied to anyone who sailed over the Sea. Whover it is for, it's a powerful song!

I always assumed that it was about Frodo and Sam, but now that I read this topic, I'm not so sure anymore...

I think it's about anyone and everyone who will ever leave someone behind in Middle Earth. Be it Frodo and Sam, Arwen and her Father, Galadriel and Celeborn, anyone. That's what I think too. I first thought it was about Arwen and Elrond, but then it sounded like Frodo and Sam. So, I guess it depends.

Well, the song is generally based on the people of middle earth who had to leave someone on the journey.. I don't think the song is for a specific hobbit, elf, or human. It's my opinion.. btw.. It was well sang in the oscars.. Got to me heart! lol. Anywho, If it were sang for someone specifically, it had t be for Mr. Frodo and Sam The Brave ! -Master Gimli-

And the final answer is: (drum roll, please) Frodo and Sam!!! I found a site with stuff about Howard, and he actually said the first verse is supposed to be Galadriel singing to Frodo. The second is Frodo singing to Sam.
