I'm wondering if anyone else was as disturbed as I was by the way Gandalf had his staff broken in the EE of RotK?
For one thing, Gandalf never did get to face the Witch King in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, and if he had, the ringwraith certainly wouldn't have had the power to break his staff. A creepy mortal sharing in some of the power of the One Ring against an Istari, and a "resurrected" one at that? I don't think so. Gandalf's staff is his strongest weapon... it didn't have to be broken in the movie adaption. Staff breaking was a symbol of dishonour and treachery, like Saruman's. Why should it happen to Gandalf who is guilty of no such thing?
