I think we need to take a look at the moderating situation again, both getting old members involved and perhaps bringing in a couple more people. I must stress that this doesn't mean that anyone will be booted off moderation - I understand the fact we all have offline lives, and intend to keep all the moderators unless they have incredibly strong feelings otherwise or just can't commit anymore. I'd appreciate anyone's help in locating various AWOL moderators because I am lazy busy - just let me know you're doing it so we don't bombard them with emails! So... Current moderators: Evenstar (has anyone seen Evvie around lately? Her blog was recently updated, but she hasn't logged in for 2 months.) Éowynshue (I haven't seen her since Oct 04, so help in locating her would be great) Isilmawiell (Again, help please!) Eloise (Logged in fairly recently - anyone want to find and bug?) Brannwen (Anyone seen since March?) Galadwen (Gone ) Laerdan (Not around since early last year - Nen, could you ask her for me?) Meredith (Nen, I think you mentioned that he'd been ill?) JackSparrow (Active on her own forum at the end of June but not on Meduseld since last December) Linithiel (Last logged in during June) Ivy (Last logged in during August) MirkwoodArcher (Active and much appreciated Elessar (Also active I hope it doesn't sound like I'm being impatient - I'm not really doing this for my own purposes. Several people have expressed an interest in getting some of the feel of the old days back, and I think that it'd be good to see some of the old moderators - and old members like Marieke, Tish, Chloe and Morwen, for that matter - back on. As for new moderators, let me know if you're interested. I have a couple of names in mind but I'm honestly so bad at keeping track of everyone there are probably tons of good people I've missed out. Send me your name, forum you're interested in co-moderating and general availability via private message or email ( meduseld@btinternet.com). Thanks! ~Sim

I was talking to El today. She's settling in at college right now, but I hope she will be m,ore active here soon.
Meredith has been seriously ill with diabetes and has been unable to get on since the upgrade, but his medication is now starting to work and I have told him how he can get back in, so now he can concentrate again, he should be back soon.
I will ask Laerdan, she's been busy with studies, but I'm sure she is still interested.
I think Shue is gone for good. Galadwen too.
Ivy Walker is not online much these days. I hope it is temporary.
Evvie, I think is just busy. I spoke to her recently and her enthusiasm for Med remains undimmed.
If you're looking for new mods, Elorendil, Dandre and Hathawyn all spring to mind. If we ask them nicely, they may be interested.

I think Elorendil would be a fabulous mod! She's certainly showed a lot of commitment to the site, and she seems to be very adept at working with people.
I hope some of the mods will be inspired to come back! For those that are "gone for good", I'm wondering if they should actually be replaced? If someone isn't able to keep up the position anymore, because of real life or illness or something else, it might even be a comfort to have the responsability lifted. Of course, there's also the whole thing with status and rank. We don't want to take away someone's well-earned honor! Is there a way, Sim, to remove a moderator status, but keep the actual rank as it is?

But, if Sim would like me to, I would be happy to do my best to help out as a Mod.

She has been pretty definite about not being part of Med any more, in fact she found it amusing that I thought she'd want to be. Not sure what went on. According to her she has hated me since last November. As far as I remember, we didn't even quarrel, but she seems to have lost interest in Med about that time too. Wish I knew more, but I'm as much in the dark as everyone else. Galadwen probably isn't going to come back either, but I think she would like to if she could. I think there is a case for keeping her place open but appointing other mods too.

I think there is a case for keeping her place open but appointing other mods too. I certainly wasn't aware of any problems Shue was having - perhaps it was the whole situation with the Lúthien house where you were upset Shue went to Beren and you left (then thankfully returned) thanks to the fact I didn't finish an important post (that was a complete run-on sentence). I wish people would tell me these things, but I guess that in the same situation I wouldn't say a word. Anyhow, what I would do with replacing moderators is leave them their titles (most have already earnt them post-wise) and just remove their mod capabilities for now. They would be free to return and be reinstated and I might be able to sort out some kind of "inactive moderator" or "moderator on hiatus" rank. Hope Meredith is doing OK I know someone who was also recently diagnosed with diabetes and my grandpa had it as well, so I sort of know how hard it can be. Thanks for giving me info on people - do you know anything about the non-mods like Morwen, Marieke etc? As for those you mentioned Nen, I've had all three names in mind. Elor's been wonderfully active, Háthy is well overdue for a mod role (if she wants it) and Dandrë is just brilliantly enthusiastic and helpful. If you all get in touch with me via PM or this thread and let me know your preferred forums, I can put you on mod status fairly quickly. Thanks! ~Sim

Lol. I'm honored that you think I could be a mod, Sim! I'll think about it... in the meantime, why don't we work on getting the forums active again? (Houses too?) Posting in dusty threads, ect. Is there an effort going on in the newbie front? According to the homepage arnir is the newest member. Have they been sent an activation code? Maybe we could get an email together to send to all the newbies, containing links for various forums or especially fun threads? I'm sure these people didn't join without any hope of joinging in the fun. Maybe they just need a little nudge our way.

Not to step on your toes, Nen, but what exactly are you doing to welcome newbies? I'm sure you're doing a great job, but perhaps we could make some sugestions and/or help out with your effort. If you don't mind, that is Sim, I would be particularly interested in mod-ing Finrod and the Horns of Rohan. The Games would also be fun to mod. But I'm more than happy to help out wherever mods are needed

If I can just say something about the newbie situation - I've got the activation codes automated (just had to uncheck an option). What Nen does as far as I'm aware is send out welcoming PMs, so bar the main moderating, it's definitely more of a behind-the-scenes operation I definitely need to make the PM links more obvious, though - and I like the idea of the fun thread links. Maybe we should all get the newbie PM out and add little bits to it - possibly little messages from various mods and so on. We could kind of add to it and make it like a little piece of Meduseld, if you know what I mean. Opinions? Elorendil - If it's OK, I think you could take over a leader post at Finrod. Isil's post will obviously remain open for her If you're willing, it'd also be good for you to do the Horns of Rohan. Háthy - Could you do the games? Thanks everyone! ~Sim

Sure Sim! Games would be great And I really like the fun links idea, and the little messages from us!!=P And Sim, I don't know what's happening, but I always get an error page when I try to get to my PM's. Am I doing something wrong? *feels stupid*

Nope. This was my fault - PBv4 now doesn't accept calls (i.e. referrers) from anyway except the welcome bar. I've restored the "Hey, X, you have X messages" - while it looks slightly odd now, it does work and for now that's the most important thing. I'll add your mod status and put you on the games forum right away

That's a good idea for the newbie PM. Up until now, I have been writing a different PM for everyone as they join (although I know I missed some when my depression was bad) but it would be great if we could put together something with more involvement from the different parts of Med. Congratulations to our new mods. You're going to be great!
