(in an attempt to kick some life into this thread ) If anyone's interested, I've started a project of a comparison between performances of similar or exact lines of dialogue between the BBC radio drama and Peter Jackson's films. This is what I have done so far. James Grout and John Weatherly as Barliman Butterbur:Good evening, little masters!John McAndrew and Billy Body as Pippin:What are you going to do, then?Michael Hordern and Ian McKellen as Gandalf:Fool of a Took!Douglas Livingstone and John Rhys-Davies as Gimli:That was a kingly gift!Michael Hordern and Ian McKellen as Gandalf:"They are coming."Marian Diamond and Cate Blanchett as Galadriel:Stronger than the foundations of the earth! All shall love me and despair! (perhaps the most striking comparison, in vision and execution.) Michael Graham-Cox and Sean Bean as Boromir:It is not yours save by unhappy chance.David Collings and Orlando Bloom as Legolas:You would die before your stroke fell.Ian Holm and Elijah Wood as Frodo:For now that I see him, I do pity him.Robert Stephens and Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn:You still speak in riddles. Michael Hordern and Ian McKellen as Gandalf:Breathe the free air again...Jack May and Bernard Hill as Theoden:Dark have been my dreams of late.Paul Brooke and Brad Dourif as Wormtongue:Send me not from your side.John McAndrew and Billy Boyd as Pippin:The mightiest man may be slain by one arrow, and Boromir was pierced by many.Jack May and Bernard Hill as Theoden:I will say no more.William Nighy and Sean Astin as Sam:It's always dark here.Peter Woodthorpe and Andy Serkis as Gollum:It's the only way.Peter Vaughan and John Noble as Denethor:He is burning, already burning.Michael Hordern and Ian McKellen:Fall into the nothingness that awaits you and your master!Ian Holm and Elijah Wood:You have so much to enjoy, and to be, and to do. (interestingly, both adaptations have this as voiceover as Sam returns from the Grey Havens)

Those are so cool! I remember you telling me a long time ago that you were going to make sound clips comparing them... Thanks for posting them!

I borrowed this recording from about a year ago and...I haven't given it back. I listen to it while I go to sleep. I love it!
Elessar, those are very cool. As I'm listening now I'm able to pick those parts out (and you're right about the Galadriel line, they're very close). I had heard a while ago that Ian Holm had been Frodo on the BBC recording, but when I listened to it it sounded a little off. Now I know it really was him. Yay!

I recently downloaded the BBC recordings, with fond memories of Elessar. He recommended it to me years ago, and I loved it.
