OK, a question for you all about the actors. A lot of them smoke (Elijah, Viggo, Liv until 2002 etc.). My question is does it put you off them? Post answers here.

Hmmm, good question. When I read that Elijah smoked I though, "Ughhh." But then I thought, "Oh, well, what do you expect?" I don't know why I thought that, but a lot of people smoke, and I guess they're just one of them. But I guess I doesn't really put me off them, just I think of them differently once I found that out. By the way Sim, why'd you want to know?

Well, nobody is perfect. It's not smart to smoke, but if they really want to smoke, who am I to stop them? I think people can smoke as much as they like, as long as they don't blow the smoke into other people's faces. But it would be a shame if they would die because of lung cancer before they are even 50 years old.

My father smoked for many years. I hated the smell and I hated the fact that he was killing himself (I hid his cigarettes sometimes). I never thought any less of him because of it, but I was terrified that I would lose him. When he gave up, I was overjoyed. I'm the same about anyone with an addiction. I wish they would give it up, but I don't think they're weak or stupid because they can't. One thing though, I could never kiss a man who smoked. Now that nobody in my family smokes, the slightest whiff of cigarettes makes me feel ill.

I don't like smoking but it's their decision if they want too. Loads of poeple smoke and thats up too them.

But I would never smoke. My grandfather died years before I was born, because he smoked too much, and I never had the chance to know him. My uncle got leukemia because of the smoking (most people think that it only gives you lung cancer, but it causes other cancer too), and he has been very ill. Fortunately he has recovered and he quit the habit.
Another reason is that the smoke makes my eyes itching. Contacs and smoke don't go together.

I don´t really mind if people smoke, though nobody in my family does. I didn´t know about some of the actors you listed, but nothing changed now when I found out. They are adults who chose to do so, it may not be the smartest thing to do, but it´s their choice.
I was a bit surprised about Viggo smoking, but he can do whatever he wants with his life. He will always stay a great actor for me and my respect will never get smaller, even if he smokes.

I didn't know Elijah smoked until last night when I was watching TTT EE with the actors commentary, and he said he smoked, but advised against it. I can't stand the smell of smoke, and I have really bad allergies, so the smoke makes me feel sick anways. My chest feels heavy, I get a headache, and start coughing. And I couldn't kiss a man who smoked, either. It doesn't really change my opinion of them, but I do wish they would give it up, as I would hate for any of them to get cancer or anything because of it!

Smoking is disgusting.
The fact that some of the LotR actors smoke doesn't make me like the movies any less, but it does change my opinion of the actors themselves. No offense to anyone, but how stupid do you have to be to A) give yourself lung cancer B) smell horrible C) and waste hundreds of dollars. All for what? To look cool?!? It's just silly if you ask me.
