I doubt that any of them condone smoking, and even though they do it themselves, it doesn't change my opinion of any of them. I like them as actors, and I respect most of them for their opinions. It's their own personal choice, like many of you have said, so I wouldn't try to stop them as long as they never tried to get me to do it! Look at it this way: It's better they smoke cigarettes then something else!

Yes I was watching the commentary of TTT EE and Elijah says he has a smoking problem and "kids don't smoke" it made me laugh but then I thought it was kind of sad... oh well

Smoking. Yuck! I never have had any temptation to smoke. When I was in high school someone said "Well, you'll die anyway." Yes, but I don't want to die of lung cancer! My mom's a nurse and I learned early on the horrors of smoking.
That aside... I don't like the fact that the actors smoke, but most actors do, so it doesn't change what I think about them. We know so little about actors, I just don't even really think about them that much. I figure they need their own lives and privacy. I tend to concentrate on the characters more than the actors. So, I appreciate the acting skill of the actors very much, regardless of their personal lives.

Smoking is not a good thing of smart to do but, That doesn't make them a bad person. I think I remember hearing Elijah say somewhere in TTT EE not to smoke it's a bad habbit and that sorta thing. Hopefully they'll get off it but, I'm not so much turned off of them. What turns me off them is some of their political views...(I'm a republican Bush supporter.)

Right on. Bush is my other hero. The state of the union address last night was great.

OK, a question for you all about the actors. A lot of them smoke (Elijah, Viggo, Liv until 2002 etc.). My question is does it put you off them? Post answers here. Nah, not really. I mean, I am dead against smoking myself - I never have smoked and never will, but it's their choice

I agree that it's stupid, but we all do stupid things. It's a miracle that I've never drowned, since I'm drawn to the water and completely unable to swim. that reminds me of me... but I eventually learnt to swim... after one unpleasant experience close to the shore I, myself, smoke sometimes... not much and not regulary, but I do... I was never *need sssssssigy my preciousssss* and I hope I never become that... my parents were both unserious smokers (like me) and they said if you want to, it's ok... just don't smoke too much and be aware of the danger... I never cared much for ciggies, I hardly do a box(20) per month (tho I've done that in a night as well) As to the actors... I never judge someone from what they smoke... if they smoke that's okay with me... if they drink (without being unable to walk) it's ok with me as well.... drugs is what can really put me off It's weird how everyone finds it awful that EW smokes, knowing that the pipeweed was one of the lead joys in the book.

i knew elijah smoked, and orlando used to, but he stopped, thank god,....it's a shame to see people so talented destroy themselves. I didn't know, however, that Viggo smokes...that's awful.
I personally don't like smoking, but i won't say anything against people who do smoke. I believe Elijah is trying to stop, and hopefully Viggo will too. It would be a shame for them to get cancer or something.

Ah, but their pipeweed may not have contained nicotine!

I started smoking in 1957, I was 11. I quit a year ago 2/17. It is very hard to quite. I was an IV drug user in the 70s and quitting cigarettes was by far more difficult than quitting drugs, which I did in 1980, thank goodness. lol I feel sorry for smokers.
