I HATE Denethor!!! How can someone be so insensitive? I dunno - he's just sooo *grrrrrr* I never really hated him all that much in the book, but actually seeing him being that way in the film just made me hate him completely and utterly

Denethor is the character I hate the most. In fact he's the only character I hate. It's true that Sauron isn't a very nice guy, but exept trying to cover the entire world in darkness, he didn't do anything wrong. With Denethor, it's personal. The way he treats Faramir... I have been a Faramir fan since I saw TTT for the first time, and it's getting even worse. When I see Denethor eating when Faramir rides to Osgiliath, and when Denethor only worries about his line when his son is dying, I always feel like throwing something at the screen. It felt so good when Gandalf wacked him! I said loudly "good job Gandalf!" (everyone in the cinema must have thought that I am weird, but it happened every time)

OMG! I'm exactly the same! I luv all the characters - even Sauron! But Denethor is the only one I hate *lmao* I loved the part when he turned round and Gandalf batters him with his staff *rofl* It seemed as though I was the only one who laughed coz when I looked everywhere else, no one else was laughing - even when he went on fire

I really hated it when he was just eating, when Faramir is riding to his death! And Denethor doesn't even care!!!!!! I loved it when Gandalf hit him with his staff too!

I think PJ shoulda somehow hinted that Denethor was being influence by Sauron through one of the palantiri..... He just seems like more of a jerk without it.

Well, with or without palantir, that guy is a jerk anyway. I hated him in the book too, even though he has a palantir.

You know, I think that Sauron just needed a big hug. You never know what a hug can solve Denethor, on the other hand, I can't stand. He was so mean to faramir! and he was much worse in the movie than the book. At least in the book you could sortof feel bad for him...

LOL - so Sauron was really reaching down to hug Isildur! And then Isildur goes and chops off his finger!

hmm.... now that's an interesting theory I've never heard before!! I can't stand Denethor, and feel so sorry for poor Faramir!! I went to see RotK opening day, in the morning, so people would have had to make an effort to take off work or school to go, so they were all most likely pretty big fans. When Gandalf hits Denethor with his staff, everyone laughed, and some people started clapping! It was funny I was glad to see it happen to him, because I can't stand the guy!

I guess that part could have been funny- except that it was so not like the book...just like the whole rest of the movie call me a purist if you want, but its true!

You know, I didn't really like Gandalf whopping Denethor either... it seemed slightly "UnGandalfish" to me.

Yes that bit annoyed me too, as much as I disliked Denethor. And at the end when they were burning, Shadowfax pretty much kicked Denethor onto the fire, instead of trying to save him like Gandalf tried to in the book.

I liked Gandalf's 'wallop' but yeah it was quite 'UnGandalfish'.....heh....something’s have to change and I think the 'slightly dense' audience members need a bit of slapstick comedy to make a movie worth watching ;D

Well, the staff-wacking wasn't very Gandalf-ish, that's true. But I was glad that he wacked Denethor, 'cause if he didn't do that, I would have tossed something at the screen. That Denethor was so annoying, I hate him!
