LOL - so Sauron was really reaching down to hug Isildur! And then Isildur goes and chops off his finger! Tee hee hee! Now that would make an awesome fan-fic...!! "Musings of a Dark Lord" LOL

I love both the books and the movies. I have reconciled the changes thusly: I view the movie as the legend that has been embellished and changed with the retelling by the story tellers. The books I regarded as the actual history of the events. Silly, perhaps but it works for me.

That's not a bad way of looking at it Cyberlee; I mean, in the interests of time, budget, and the things they could do physically, they did have to change some things just for the practicality. It's got to be a hard job to have to go through and say "ok, this can't work b/c of whatever, and even though I'd love to put this in, we just can't afford it." It's got to be reeeeeelly hard! But, I think the way they did it was very well done, considering all the things they had to keep in mind as they were shooting.

Agreed. What makes a good book doesn't necessarily make a good movie, and vis-versa.

I'd just like to say that I liked both the movies and the books, but some of Pete's changes kinda ticked me off a bit. I chose the Frodo sending Sam away one coz that was soooo sad and pretty much an un needed change, but I really missed the scouring of the shire! Coz that's where it shows that the hobbits really can defend thier own keep. Although I do agree that most of Pete's changes made the movie better coz things in a book can't always be brought to life on the screen exactly. I also hope that they show more of Faramir and Eyown's story in the EE.

:-/I didn't really like any of the changes, although the one where frodo sends sam away was worst. There was also the gandalf staff-wacking, the green dead, the dead captain looking like Captain Barbosa, Denethor being a human missile, no houses of the healing, no eowyn/faramir, that orc who looks like there is a potato growing out of his head, etc. (I could go on forever but you'd probably get bored after the third page) I know that the movie couldn't be exactly like the book, but there were some very unnecessary changes that did not help the story in any way.

Actually, I didn't mind about the things PJ added to the story. Some things (like Frodo sending Sam away ) are great and make the movie even more exciting. The only thing I don't like is that PJ left out some things from the book, like Saruman and the Houses of Healing. But if he included every single thing that was in the books, the movies would take forever (not that I have a problem with that... )

Everytime they make a change from the book, it pisses me off. I'm sure I'm being biased, so sorry, but I just found everything in the books to be far superior.

Honestly, the changes really don't bother me. I know that the movies aren't exactly 100% accurate to the books, but if you ask me, I would rather that the movies be not completely accurate but extremely entertaining, exciting and just plain great movies, rather than being 100% accurate but not being great movies. I've said it a thousand times, but movies and books aren't the same thing. What works in a book doesn't always work in a movie. That calls for changes to be made, and so the way I see it if they make the movie more exciting or interesting, or enhance the story, then I like them. And all the changes PJ and co made I think were entirely justified and valid. But I can't choose what my favourite change would be...probably, in terms of ROTK, just the changes to Aragorn in general . But that's a complicated issue, for another time perhaps .
